It’s spooky season! Get in the Halloween spirit with 2024’s best Halloween movies.
Frankenweenie (2012)
Frankenweenie is about a peculiar boy named Victor Frankenstein, who considers his best friend to be his dog, Sparky. Unfortunately, a tragedy occurs, and he is left heartbroken. BUT, science whizz Victor has an idea. He conducts an experiment in the basement and reverses the effects of the terrible disaster that had occurred. But, this is not without its consequences. Unlike many others, this film is very memorable. Frankenweenie is a must-watch during the Halloween season.
Scream (1996)
Scream is a classic. If you haven’t watched Scream already, watch it. If you have, watch it again. The plot of this film is centered around a high school student named Sidney Prescott and her close-knit group of friends, who become the target of a serial killer: Ghostface. This film differs from most of the others included on this list. This film may actually spook you.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
The Nightmare Before Christmas is easily one of Tim Burton’s most successful films in his career. It is a timeless film; it will never get old. The Nightmare Before Christmas tells the story of Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town. Jack stumbles upon something unfamiliar to him: Christmas Town. He decides he wants it for himself. To his surprise, taking over Christmas wouldn’t be as simple as he thought.
Halloween (1978)
Halloween is about a 6-year-old boy named Michael Meyers who brutally murdered his sister on the night of Halloween. 15 years later, Michael’s aggressive behavior continues. After attacking and escaping his escort, he makes his way back to his hometown and commits another murder. While in hiding from the police, Michael begins stalking and tormenting a girl named Laurie Strode. You may want to watch out when you’re trick or treating after watching this film.
Coraline (2009)
Coraline is the best Halloween film of all time. This is fact. In this film, Coraline and her parents move into the Pink Palace, a Victorian style home in the middle of nowhere. One night, Coraline finds a small door in an empty room. She opens it, and it leads to something she never could have imagined. She will never be the same. Follow Coraline’s journey in escaping the “Other Mother.”
Corpse Bride (2005)
Corpse Bride begins with a woman named Victoria Everglot and a man named Victor Van Dort, who have been arranged to marry for the benefit of both families. Victor and Victoria fall in love. But, Victor ruins the wedding. He forgets his vows, drops the ring, and sets the bride’s dress on fire. He flees into the forest, and stumbles upon a girl, a dead girl, named Emily. She announces herself to be his wife, and takes him to the “Land of the Dead.” Unfortunately, Emily realizes something. She will never be able to make Victor happy.
Hocus Pocus (1993)
On October 31, in Salem, a boy named Thackery Binx discovers his younger sister, Emily, has been kidnapped by three witches: Winifred, Mary, and Sarah Sanderson. Thackery hunts down the witches, and stumbles upon a cottage. He tries, and fails, to prevent the witches from taking Emily’s youth. As punishment, the witches turn Thackery into a black cat. Soon, the townspeople arrest the witches, and have them publicly hung for their sins. Little do they know, the witches have a couple tricks up their sleeve.
The Addams Family (1991)
If you couldn’t guess, this film is centered around the lives of the Addams’. Gomez Addams’ brother has been missing for 25 years. Suddenly, Fester, or someone who resembles Fester, has come back, along with a “psychiatrist” named Dr. Greta. The family throws a party, and the so-called Fester and Dr. Greta attempt to break into the Addams’ vault. Wednesday, Gomez’s daughter, catches them in the act, and learns their true identities. Who are they really?
