The Infiltration of Youtubers into the Music Industry

By Ryan Afable

Many people imagine themselves as the new biggest things in the music industry. When Youtubers get that idea, we get amazing songs like “It’s Everyday Bro” by Jake Paul and “Mask” by Dream.

KSI is the co-owner of Lunchly with Logan Paul and Mr. Beast, while also being the co-owner of Prime with Logan Paul. KSI is also a boxer, and has 2,803,506 monthly listeners on Spotify. He started his music career in 2015. He has made 5 albums and over 40 singles and EPs. He started off his music career in a good way, with a song in the Billboard Top 100, “Lose” feat. Lil Wayne, peak at 86. But, his career has slowly been going downhill. His newest release, “Thick of it,” was criticized for everything. The main complaints were related to his lyrics, with lines such as, “From the screen to the ring, to the pen to the king. Where’s my crown? That’s my bling.”

The next artist is Dream, a Minecraft Youtuber that became popular in 2020 with his Dream SMP and Speedrunner vs Manhunter videos. He has 420,079 monthly listeners and released his first song, “Under the Tree,” on June 5, 2020. The song that really got him started was “Mask,” which was greatly criticized for the themes it talked about. In the music video, Dream is shown throwing his “normal pills away.”

The final Youtuber has only made one song, but it is one of the most hated songs. Jake Paul released “It’s Everyday Bro.” It has very iconic lyrics, such as “England is my city.” He got his brother’s ex into the music video and got her to kiss him to start a feud. The music video just showed them doing awkward dance moves around an expensive car.

There have been many Youtubers that have also had semi successful careers in the music industry. This article is not to hate on anyone who likes the songs that these Youtubers have made. Remember not to go out of your way to hate on what people make and listen to.
