Now You See Me 2 is the great sequel to the previous movie, Now You See Me. The two movies focus on a group of street magicians—played by Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Herrelson, Dave Franco, and Isla Fisher, who was replaced by Lizzy Caplan and a new character in 2—who join a group called “The Eye” and become the four horsemen. They con people who deserve it and pull all sorts of magic tricks to evade the bad guys and the law.
Three of the tricks from the second movie are pretty cool. The first one is when they go down a tube, which has patterns in it. They originally had a tube to escape if things go wrong, which they do. The villains placed another tube closer to make them take it instead of the correct one since they are rushing to leave. This causes them to fall asleep, which allows them to be transported in a truck. The patterns in the tube make them subconsciously fall asleep.
The next trick involves a card shaped chip. They are tasked by the main villain to get a chip out of a facility to earn their freedom. To get it out, they stick it to the back of a playing card, and then they go through a massive acrobatics act with the card. They use a combination of string, throwing and catching, and using their clothing to move it.
They use other props like a hat and a bra to get it out. The directors use dramatic music to show that they have an underlying risk of getting caught, contrasted by higher sounding music towards the end to show their success. The actors use various hand and arm movements to help direct our attention to what they are doing.
The final trick in the movie is the plane trick. They switch truck drivers to drive them and the villains to a fake hangar. They use the main villain’s fear of lights and being seen to get him onto a fake plane without him knowing. They then use fans to control rain from rain machines to make it seem like they are flying. Dave Franco’s character tricks Woody’s brother into having the idea to throw them out of the plane. This leads to the arrest of the bad guys and the escape of the horseman.
Overall, the movies have many tricks, but these tricks are some of the best ones from the movie. They will be releasing a third movie, which I think isn’t needed. However, if it works well and follows up with the previous villain—played by Daniel Radcliffe—like they did a little bit with Morgan Freeman’s character, it could work. Or, if they did something like what they did with the second movie, where the villain from the first has someone else help him get revenge.
