On Saturday the 26th of October, 2024, Benicia High School will hold its annual Homecoming Dance with the theme revolving around “Vintage Hollywood.”
When preparing for a dance, most people tend to do the basic preparation before the event with some examples being: getting an outfit, setting up before, after plans, and asking someone to attend the event with them. However, this isn’t the basic preparation for the people behind the scenes: BHS’s ‘Leadership Team.’
I decided to go around to multiple members of the team and ask what the process is like for them setting up for such a big event.
I first went to longtime Leadership member, Bella Cannon (Senior), to ask her perspective of setting up for the dance. “Well we first get to the school around 8-AM in the morning, and we have all the decorations already out for us when we arrive,” stated Cannon. “Each person has their own specific task—like setting up the stage, getting the booth ready for the DJ, all the balloons and signs, and so on. Then, we leave, grab donuts, and get ready to attend the dance,” she continued.
I then asked her what her favorite part is about setting up for the night and homecoming in general. Cannon replied, “My favorite part is the end when you get to see all the decorations and your vision come to life. It is very time consuming but it all pays off in the end.”
I then moved on to another longtime member, Jewel Puno (Junior), and talked about what her job is when coming to prepare for the night. “I help set up the coat check, the photo opp, the tables, decorations, and really just check on every section of what makes homecoming a reality,” said Puno.
After discussing the topic more, I ended our discussion by asking the same question I asked Cannon: what is your favorite part about setting up for homecoming?
Puno replied, “Well it’s a little stressful at first because it’s a very daunting task, but once everything comes together it gets a lot of stress off, and I get hyped for the dance.”
Here at the PAW, we want to give our special appreciation and thanks to the leadership team for all of their hard work putting this all together.
We hope we will see you there!
