It is very likely that wherever you go on social media you will see someone trying to get you to buy something or to do something. This is called an influencer, The dictionary meaning of an influencer is “a person with the ability to influence potential buyers of a product or service by promoting or recommending the items on social media.” In the article “What is an Influencer?” on Sprout Social, it stated that “85% of marketers engaged in influencer marketing in 2017 and 92% said their campaign was successful.”
The first influencer I want to talk about is Logan Paul, who started off as a Youtuber, known for his vlogging style videos. He is now a professional boxer. His highest followed account is on Instagram with 27 million followers. He and fellow influencer KSI made “Prime,” which is an energy drink that has been widely criticized. His status and followers, which are mainly kids, have allowed the sales of Prime to skyrocket. Over 1,000,000,000 bottles have been sold in the past two years.
One of the biggest influencers is Christiano Ronaldo, who is a soccer player for the Al Nassr Football Club. He has 642 million followers. One of the biggest sponsors is Nike, who has given him a lifetime deal. He has his own brand of soccer cleats, and is one of the highest paid athletes.
The final influencer is Kai Cenat, who held a record as one of the most subscribed Twitch streamers. This record was beaten recently. On August 4, 2023, Kai was planning to have a massive giveaway of PS5s, computers, and many other gaming items in Union Square. On the day, the crowd quickly grew, causing a mass riot, which ended up with 7 people injured and 65 people arrested, including 30 minors. Kai was arrested and had to make a public apology and pay $55,000 in damages. Kai was also supposedly contacted by reps for Kamala Harris to try to get on to one of his streams, which has featured many celebrities, including Kevin Hart and Ice Spice. He said he didn’t want to get involved with politics since he doesn’t know anything about it. Kamala’s team denied it, causing a small feud between the two.
On any social media platform, you will see all types of people supporting or trying to get you to buy something. You should always do your own research no matter what type of influence they have. People can always be wrong.
