BHS Theater Presents Shakespeare’s: A Midwinter Night’s Dream

By Colton Silva

On Saturday December 7th, 2024, BHS will unveil its highly anticipated fall play, Shakespeare’s A Midwinter Night’s Dream. The show is a twist on the original piece—A Midsummer Night’s Dream—and adds a lot of new changes other than setting the show during the winter. One big addition is the time period. Instead of setting the play in Shakespearean times, the play is set in the late 1950’s. Along with the new time frame, the show will include many references to that period of time in clothing, dances and classic songs.

Being a part of the show, I went to meet with the Director of A Midwinter Night’s Dream,  Nikki Clark Tillotson, to talk about her take on the show and what made her choose this play.

“I chose this play because I’m very familiar with it. I teach it in the younger grades, such as 5th grade classrooms,” said Tillotson. “But really, it is the ultimate teen drama. It has magic, love, lust, combat and physicality and all kinds of craziness going on. It also speaks to the nature of love in general and how chaotic and crazy that really can be and nobody feels that way more than teenagers. It also has a large cast. It lets many different actors explore acting theory and learn how to use their bodies in different ways.”

This hilarious show opens on Saturday, December 7th and we hope that everyone goes and sees the show and comes out with great big smiles on their faces. Other show dates include a matinee performance on December 8th, and two more evening performances on December 13th and 14th. You can buy tickets online at Tabbs.org or at the door.
