Hallmark Holiday Movies: Hit or Miss

By Ella Stone

When it starts to get a little colder outside, you can take your sweaters from the back of your closet and get into the holiday spirit! My favorite part is the movies that come out during this time. As a kid, I always loved to watch Hallmark movies all bundled up with a blanket and hot chocolate in my hand, so I’m going to help you decide which movies are worth a watch, and which ones you can probably skip.

Twas the Date Before Christmas

Hallmark has begun its countdown to Christmas and started off with releasing “Twas the Date Before Christmas.” If you have seen any Hallmark movie before, you would know they are all about romance and finding the Christmas spirit. In this movie, a single woman has to find a date to her family Christmas Party to keep the snarky remarks from her family to a minimum. Definitely a good watch, but not my favorite.

Holiday Crashers

This Hallmark movie was definitely my favorite. It has a different start from all the others and seemed to have a bit more comedy than most others do. Holiday Crashers is about two friends creating fake identities to crash Christmas parties, and they both find something meaningful they add to their life. I like that this movie doesn’t promote the misconstrued fact that a woman’s happiness is based on the man they find but rather shows there is more to life than finding love.

The 5 -Year Christmas Party

In this movie, high school rivals end up signing up for the same holiday job. They are forced to spend tons of time together, and you can only imagine what happens next. It is a classic enemies-to-lovers story.I don’t think those could ever be done too wrong. It’s definitely a must-watch during a night in with the girls with the scent of freshly baked cookies in the air.

Our Holiday Story

This movie shows the love story between two couples. I always love when there are multiple, intertwined plots—all of which show the struggles of trying to connect during a stressful time of year. I think it is good to show that nothing is always perfect and that it is good to communicate your feelings when experiencing bumps in the road.

Santa Tell Me

This was not my favorite. A girl is looking to find her true love before Christmas, then she ends up having to choose between 4 guys–which just doesn’t have a ton of great storylines. I think it is important to show more than just a woman having to choose a man out of a lineup. Finding love is about finding who you have a connection with, not just a person who falls at your feet. I’m not saying this is a bad movie, but the others just have more meaning to me and have more holiday spirit instead of just showing snow in the background of a dating show!

Now that I’ve told you my Hit or Miss Hallmark holiday movies, it’s your turn to decide for yourself. So go buy some holiday pajamas and bake your favorite holiday treat, so you can kick back and relax. Happy Holidays!
