Why is it that women are constantly trying to find ways to feel beautiful but never seem to feel like it’s enough?
Throughout the years, different products have been marketed to women to make them feel like there’s something wrong with them that needs to be fixed—whether the fix is razors (which originally were made to call women who didn’t shave dirty just to sell their products) or makeup and skin care brands. The problem isn’t with women using these products but the marketing that degrades women to make them feel like they need the products.
The new “beauty secret” that is taking the world by storm is Botox and fillers. These work by freezing your muscles or by adding injections to fill up specific areas. Almost every celebrity or influencer has some form of this and is rarely transparent about it.
Aging has always been seen as ugly instead of a sign of having lived. Nearly every generation is on Tik Tok and are all being influenced to have this same opinion. This can be incredibly harmful, especially to the youth.
When we see these influencers with no wrinkles or the perfect nose, most fail to realize that these are the result of plastic surgery and fillers. Everyone ages and gets wrinkles—it’s just a part of life, but women are constantly being told their worth is based on how young they are. Due to this harmful mindset placed on women, they feel the need to get Botox.
Getting work done can fix insecurities but it’s also important to focus on self love and evaluating the true reason you’re getting work done. Is it because of societal standards? Or is it for you?
