As we near the end of 2024 and head into 2025, we are met with plenty of new music from all of our favorite artists and bands, ranging from pop to country to hip hop.
- Shawn Mendes
Solo pop artist Shawn Mendes made his debut in June of 2014 with his single, “Life of the Party.” Since then, Mendes has made many hits like his most popular songs, “Senorita,” “Mercy,” “Stitches,” and more. Mendes will be releasing his new album, Shawn, on November 15th, 2024. The album was originally set to be released in mid October of 2024, but the release was postponed. The artist claimed he just needed a little more time to “bring some new inspiration and ideas to life.”
- Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj’s debut album, Pink Friday, released in 2010, made her an instant household name across the U.S. The album quickly topped the U.S. Billboard 200 and produced the largest female rap album sales week of the 21st century. Minaj has released around 5 albums throughout her career. Her most popular is the iconic Pink Friday. In December 2023, Minaj released the album Pink Friday 2. The album received a 4.5 audience rating and now, as of 2024, she is set to release her new album: Pink Friday 3. Originally, the album was meant to be called Pink Friday: Hiatus, but was recently changed for unknown reasons. Regardless of album title, the Barbs are buzzing about the release.
- The Weeknd
Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, also known as The Weeknd, has announced his final album, Hurry Up Tomorrow. The artist has been releasing music since August of 2009, and is an R&B sensation. Although he declared the album to be his last, it will only be his last album under the moniker of The Weeknd, and it is possible that he will continue to release music under a different name. Hurry Up Tomorrow will be his sixth studio album as The Weeknd, and will serve as the final part in his album trilogy. This includes After Hours (released in 2020) and Dawn FM (released in 2022). There is no official release date yet, but it is said to be released sometime in 2024.
- Lana Del Rey
Lana Del Rey is known for her share of “sad girl music,” starting off with her hit “Summertime Sadness.” People love her sad pop style albums. But with her upcoming album, Lasso, she is switching up. The album is said to be a country/folk type album, but the singer says it won’t be a heavy departure from her current sound. Lasso was originally meant to be released in September, but now is delayed to possibly sometime late 2024 or early 2025. Lana claimed she didn’t want to release anything half baked and was going to take time and not rush. Popular songwriter and record producer Jack Antonoff has also stated that he worked with Lana on the new album. Antonoff has worked with artists like Taylor swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Lorde.
