On November 12, 2024, the San Francisco 49ers signed an extension to cornerback Deommodore Lenior to a 5-year, 92 million contract. With signing this extension, this kind of tells where the 49ers are heading for the future. What will it mean for the team and the defense?
49ers defenses future
If anyone hasn’t noticed, the 49ers secondary has been shining in the defense this year whereas usually always been the defensive line that was always shining, especially during 2019 in the Super Bowl. Before it was about the D-Line helping the secondary, now it’s about the secondary helping the D-line.
Star Cornerback Charvarius Ward
After coming off a second team all-pro, the 28 year old cornerback is coming to his last year with the 49ers. Now, with the signing of Lenoir, this might be his last year with the 49ers, especially with the emergence of rookie corner Renardo Green. Right now, though, it seems like he will be with a new team when his contract is done.
The Future for the 49ers
The 49ers right now have good hands for the future to come, with this rookie class and many younger players stepping up, many veterans will be leaving for the 49ers. Some like safety Taloana Hufunga, Dre Greenlaw, and many more are going to be players that the 49ers have to decide to either let them go or sign them.
Most of the time, the backups of the 49ers usually become great starters and sometimes we get players no one has heard of. Those players become really good for the 49ers and become stars, so the future for the 49ers shouldn’t be really scary. This team has been getting prepared for the future.
