With video games being so popular, many of them celebrate holidays, the main one being Christmas, by releasing or changing features or skins. Now, with the season coming up, I want to go through what they have done in the past.
The first game is Minecraft, a survival game that incorporates building, mining and crafting. When Christmas comes around they change all the textures of the chest in the world to a present. In the past they have also released a mash up pack for the old editions of Minecraft that changed all the textures to a Christmas theme. It gave you a ton of Christmas skins and the North Pole to explore.
The next game will be Terraria, which is a 2D survival game that has a whole event in its game. One of the things is that when you kill something there is a small chance that a present will be dropped. If you open a present there is a chance you can get a snow globe which can summon an event called the frost legion, which spawns snowmen. If you beat it, you get to have the Santa NPC that you can buy Christmas gear from.
Another game is Fortnite, which has Winterfest to celebrate the holidays, where they make a ton of Christmas skins in the item shop. The best part is that they usually have the Crackshot Cabin, which has 12 presents you can pick every day that have free items. Last year they didn’t have a cabin. They had quests that you completed every day and still gave you free items. They also made winter based weapons and tools on the map.
Then there is also TF2 (Team Fortress 2), a class based 1st person shooter game. They have been doing a seasonal event every year since 2010 which is called Smissmas. Last year the update added 10 new maps; it also had 23 brand new cosmetic items, 3 taunts and 31 unusual effects. Anyone who played during the event was given a gift-stuffed stocking that had the chance to give the player Christmas based items.
The second to last game is Overwatch, which does a Christmas event called “Winter Wonderland” every year. In the last one they did there was a new currency called tickets which the player could unlock in the battle pass or by playing the game. In this event there were many new cosmetics added, and many new game modes added.
The final game is Animal Crossing: New Horizon, where there is Toy Day, which happens on Christmas Eve. There is a custom NPC named Jingle who is a reindeer. Jingle gives the player gifts and tasks the player with giving gifts to the rest of the residents in the village, which he will reward you for doing.
With all these events coming up in games and all these awards I wish you the best of luck in getting all the items in any of the games you enjoy.
