The 2010’s was a time for artists to reshape the music industry. With new types of music and genres being mixed, we had some of the best albums come from this decade. New streaming services are also coming with it, creating a whole new way and culture of listening to music. This decade had so much genre blending, which led artists to creating some of the most famous albums and songs. Here are some of the best albums from this decade. 

  1. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy – Kanye West 

This album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Family is truly one of the best albums from this decade. It brings a truly unique sound to it with a mix of R&B, Hip-hop, and Pop. It explores the themes of mental health and fame throughout the whole album. This album brought a massive impact on Hip-Hop culture and music. This album won a Grammy award for Best Rap Album of 2012. It was also nominated for Album of the Year. This album also won an MTV award for Best Art Direction for the “Runaway” music video. Songs from this album have been featured in movies like The Great Gatsby, The Wolf Of Wall Street, and Big Mouth

  1. Channel Orange – Frank Ocean

Channel Orange is an album with a lot of emotional depth and portrays exploration of love and identity. Frank Ocean went deep into his own personal thoughts on love and identity in this album, helping it connect to the audience. The emotional depth in this album made it a masterpiece that helped redefine this genre of music. This album by Frank Ocean won a Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album and was nominated for Album of the Year. Songs from this album like “Thinkin Bout You,” “Lost,” and “Bad Religion”  were featured in movies like The Fault in our Stars and 22 Jump Street and the TV show Girls

  1. To Pimp a Butterfly – Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar’s album To Pimp a Butterfly is an album with jazz mixed hip-hop. It addresses issues of race, identity, and social justice. This album can be considered as one the most important albums Kendrick has made because of songs like “Alright” and “King Kunta” that are now anthems of the Black Lives Matter movement. This album won three Grammys for being Best Rap Album of 2016, Best Rap Performance of the song “Alright,” and Best Rap Song for “Alright.” It also won an MTV award for Best Hip Hop Music Video for the song “Alright.”  A few songs were featured in movies like Black Panther, The Hate U Give, and two shows called Power and Insecure.

  1. Currents – Tame Impala 

This album is a pop and alternative masterpiece. With interesting lyrics and an almost psychedelic sound to it, this album has brought a new genre of music to the mainstream and made a statement. The songs on this album show how the production used lyrics to show self reflection. This album won a Grammy award for Best Alternative Album and was nominated for Best Dance Recording for “Lost in Yesterday.” Songs from this album have been featured in shows like Euphoria, The End of the F***ing World, and Big Mouth.
