As we bring in the new year, we are also bringing in new songs, new pop culture moments, and, of course, new movies! Upcoming horror movies, action movies, and sequels will be hitting the theaters soon!
- Captain America: Brave New World
The newest addition to the Marvel franchise, Captain America: Brave New World, will be released in theaters on February 14th of this year. Although he has denied the rumors, fans speculate that Sebastian Stan may reprise his role as Bucky in the film.
- Snow White
On March 21st, Disney’s live action musical Snow White will be released in theaters. The classic 1937 animated film will be reimagined with all new original songs by Justin Paul and Benj Pasek. Actresses Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot will star as Snow white and the Evil Stepmother. The film is directed by Marc Webb and produced by Marc Platt & Jared LeBoff. The movie has already made a name for itself even after facing backlash from critics and fans alike. The changing of the plot, CGI dwarves, and actress Rachel Zeglers’ controversial comments about the role have been the hot topics of the movie so far. The son of the original Snow White director David Hale Hand says that Walt Disney would be “turning in his grave” over the new adaptation, and it is “disrespectful to what his dad and disney did”. Regardless of all the negative comments the movie has received, it is still set to release in March and will definitely be a must watch.
- Lilo and Stitch
Despite the backlash Disney’s Snow White is receiving, the release of the live action Lilo and Stitch movie is much anticipated. The film is set to be released on May 23rd. Lilo will be played by young actress Maia Kealoha, who was born on the big island of Hawaii. Lilo’s older sister Nani is said to be played by Sydney Agudong. Of course, Stitch was created by CGI. Stitch’s CGI look has already received many positive reviews with people saying he bears a striking resemblance to the iconic alien.
- 28 Years Later
The classic movie 28 Days Later, released in 2003, is due for a sequel in June of this year titled 28 Years Later. The apocalyptic horror movie is directed by Danny Boyle and will be starring Aaron Taylor Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Jodie Comer. Despite rumors, the star of the first film, Cillian Murphy, will reportedly not be a part of the film. Producer Andrew Macdonald stated, “We wanted him to be involved, and he wanted to be involved. He is not in the first film, but I’m hoping there will be some Jim somewhere along the line.” However, he is speculated to be in the second sequel in 2026.
