Why Floors are Important

By Robert Nowinski

Floors—we have always had them. However, what if we didn’t have them? Recent studies, such as the one below, have shown that people don’t always like floors, and the masses want to know why we need them.

Floors are things that keep us grounded. If we didn’t have them, we wouldn’t be as elevated as we are today. People may spend a lot of money on them, but they are crucial to our modern society. We would have nothing between us and the ground. It provides a clean surface to walk on, as well as ceilings for buildings in some cases. According to Levi Zacorovitch, the head researcher at the Soilan Ground research facility, “Floors are a type of transportation, as much as a car or plane. They are a transition to other places. Think of castles, the home of royalty. Their buildings with stone floors looked much better than the dirt base of the peasant house.” Do you want to be a peasant, or live like royalty?

Floors may cost money, but it’s only $3.80 – $4.80 per square foot for laminate flooring. This isn’t too expensive, but still paying good money for good quality flooring. Carpet costs a lot less than other flooring, it feels more comfortable than hardwood, and it hides some things better. With floors, you also may have to clean, but your house will look much better than just dirt. Some say, “But a dirt floor is a floor.” We believe that that isn’t true; it’s just earth. It’s not comfortable or pleasant to walk on with all the bumps, ridges, and tiny rocks. If you trip, you need to spend time re-smoothing the dirt, but with floors, you don’t need to.

How many times have you shared a secret with friends, only for them to tell? The floor never did. All those times you spent alone, you weren’t alone. The floor was there with you, for you. Sad you will never find someone? Floor. Want to cry? The floor won’t judge you. Dropped something on the floor and put a dent in it? The floor won’t be upset. Your floor is a friend, and an extension of you. Make it yours.

In general, floors just make life easier. They provide us with a more enjoyable living experience, and are also safer to walk on. If you spill something, just clean it up, and the whole area won’t smell. They provide things the earth can’t, and they are better for us overall.
