Best Gifts to Give Your Loved Ones on Valentines Day

By Ella Stone

Everyone thinks that Valentine’s Day is only for couples, but that’s not true. It can be for anyone, the purpose of Valentine’s Day is to share your love with someone or everyone you appreciate. With this being said a cute date night isn’t the only thing you can do on February 14th.

Every year, my best friend and I celebrate Galentines today—my sister and I, as well. We take a day to get our nails done, and we each choose a dessert to make. Go to Trader Joe’s, grab a bunch of flowers, and make your own bouquet, or decorate cookies, or paint mason jar vases. It gives us time to get away from the stress of school or work and spend time together. It also gives us a chance to watch our favorite rom-coms and share stories. Sometimes during the year, it is hard to find a time to just enjoy yourself, which is super important, so use this day as an excuse.

If you like to cook, then you can make a meal for your family. I never cook at home because my dad always does, so having a day to take it off his hands and show him you care can be really special. There are a lot of really simple and delicious recipes that you can find online (my favorites are on Pinterest). You don’t have to be a chef, just make it with love. Maybe make some desserts, as well. My favorite dessert is chocolate-covered strawberries, but make whatever makes you happy!

If you do have a significant other, then you can plan a romantic date. Whether it is a candlelight dinner, a picnic in the park, or a movie night at home, just make sure it is special. There are also tons of experiences you can do, like hot air balloon rides or going on a hike and just enjoying nature with the one you love. These activities give you time away from stress and give you an opportunity to show how much you care about one another while also allowing you just to spend quality time together. Turn off your phones, and live in the moment. Don’t let the outside world distract you.

It is also great to spend time with your community: take some time to volunteer at a food place or plant in your neighborhood garden. Giving back can be a great way to spread love on Valentine’s Day. Cleaning out your room or cluttered spaces can also give you a fresh start, and donating these things can help people find things they need. It is an early start to spring cleaning and takes a weight off your shoulders.

Whether you write a heartfelt letter to your loved ones or create a homemade gift, it isn’t about the money you spend but the love you put into it. Do something that you both enjoy. It is a time for creating a stronger bond with the people close to you. Whether the act is big or small, it’s more about creating memories that you guys will forever hold close to your heart.
