Monster Hunter Wilds is coming February 28th and fans of the series are very excited. Monster Hunter is a game series that has been around for a long time and has a very addicting gameplay loop that consists of hunting monsters and making gear out of their parts to hunt stronger monsters. Monster Hunter Wilds is the newest game in the series, and the next open beta is going to be live February 6-9 and February 13-16 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and on Steam. Expectations are quite high among gamers because the previous games in the series, Monster Hunter World and Rise, were both big hits..
New features coming with Wilds are plentiful and interesting. A new seasons feature that changes between missions will make locales look different and change the kind of monsters that appear. The locale starts in a fallow where monsters roam, looking for food, followed by a period of ecologically altering inclemency where the apex predator of the locale appears and finally a period with lush resources and (probably) weaker monsters. The 3 locales that have been revealed are the Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest and the Oilwell Basin—all differing in climate and environment with many secrets to explore and monsters to hunt. Another new addition is monster packs where small monsters will form a herd and roam the lands like real animals, Large monsters can also form packs (albeit, not as many).
Weapons and combat are getting a new coat of paint this game with the addition of weapon switching. You can put another weapon on your mount which you can switch out when you ride it. Another mechanic newly added is focus mode in which you can hold a button to aim your attack or guard in any direction and see any weak points on the monster to exploit for big damage. Power clashing and offset attacks are new features that will let you clash with the monster for a chance to knock it down, and if you hit it while it’s attacking it will give you an opening for a special, powerful counter.
The last important bit of information regarding Monster Hunter Wilds is the benchmark and the current optimization issues. A lot of people’s computers are being slowed to a crawl by a small amount of gameplay. The details are insane but many fans can’t handle it! I know that my PC makes the normally beautiful game look like a 12 year old tech demo. For gamers with beefier PC’s, the game will be a great addition to the series. For people like me, we’ll have to upgrade or get left behind.
