The Grammy award ceremony is one of the most popular activities for celebrities. It usually takes place in early February annually. The event contains a red carpet photo opportunity, and nominated artists perform their best songs. This will be the 67th Anniversary.
The Grammys originated in 1959, the recording academy decided to nominate artists who they believed best fit into the categories. “Grammy’s” is short for Emile Berliner’s Gramophone invention, which is also represented in the trophy given out.
The 2025 Grammy’s showed what music made in 2024 best fit in their award system, but it has been loudly vocalized to be controversial. One of these votes in particular made critics crazy: Beyoncé’s album “Cowboy Carter” winning the award for best country album. It has become highly discussed on social media how she is not a country singer, so it seemed misguided to include her single country album in that category. Pointing to Twitter comments, people commented that Kacy Musgraves’ album losing to Beyoncé’s album made her angry. Musgraves later addressed the comments, saying, “It’s a sensationalist, false narrative meant to pit two talented female artists together,” which is a very mature and authentic answer. However, this does not change the fact that many people believe Beyoncé should not have won the category. Whilst this is an intense debate, the performances were nonetheless great.
The Beatles won best rock performance for their single “Now and Then.” This will be considered their eighth Grammy award after five whole decades of breaking up! This news was greatly appreciated for millions of people who still indulge in their music.
2024 was filled with insane worldwide hits, but the most broadcasted feud was Kendrick vs Drake. May 4th was a huge change for every single person involved in the music industry or invested in it. On May 4th Kendrick Lamar released “Not Like Us.” As of today, it has 1,044,769,255 streams. This gave a huge rise to Kendrick and his support system. He swept all five categories he was nominated in. He walked out of the Grammy’s with 5 awards, and the full music industry support.
As if these aren’t eventful enough, the opening monologue by the host, Trever Noah made a remark that caused him a lot of backlash considering the sensitivity of the topic of immigration. He tried to comedically state that “Shakira was the greatest thing that came out of Columbia—that was not a felony.” This caused a lot of artists to be very hurt and disgusted by this statement. Some of them even vocally responded. Kali Uchis was quick to bite back at this statement on her Instagram story, saying, “No human being is illegal! Lame jokes, weak host. Great performances, though, congrats to the artists.” During the award ceremony, Doechii also got a lot of comments on her facial expressions during the hosts’ hateful jokes.
Despite all the crazy remarks, the Grammys this year was quite eventful, leaving us all with high expectations for next year.
