In the 1920s, the radio was released into the public and took the world by storm. It has been one of the most popular forms of entertainment ever since, but, recently, the use of podcasts has seemed to follow the trend. Podcasts started with Adam Curry and Dave Winer and began to pick up more popularity with Joe Rogan’s Podcast.
Recently, podcasts have begun having more diversity and catering to different ages and demographics. They are especially popular amongst the younger generation right now with the influence of social media. Podcasters post their clips on platforms like TikTok to gain more popularity.
Some that are very popular amongst teenagers and young adults are Cancelled podcast with Tana Mongeau and Brooke Schofield, Alix Earle’s Hot Mess, Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy, So True with Caleb Hearon, Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain, Brittany Broski’s Broski Report, Dropouts, and Basement Yard.
Podcasts are popular because they cover such a wide variety of topics. Whether it’s true crime, comedy, news, or even niche topics like specific hobbies, there’s something for everyone. Podcasts can dive deeper into subjects than radio often can, which is great for listeners who want more specialized content.
One of the biggest reasons podcasts have become so popular is that they are easy to access and very convenient. Unlike traditional radio, which requires you to listen at a specific time, podcasts let you listen whenever you want. With streaming apps like Spotify and Apple Podcasts, you can listen to podcasts while driving, exercising, or doing other tasks. Podcasts are also easy and cheap to make. Anyone with a microphone and internet connection can create and share a podcast. This has led to a huge variety of voices and topics being involved in public discourse.
Podcasts are growing in popularity, but they aren’t completely replacing traditional radio. Instead, they are offering a new option for listeners who want more flexibility and control over what they listen to.
