On March 25th, 2015, Denise Huskins and her boyfriend Aaron Quinn became victims of a home invasion and kidnapping in Vallejo, California. Denise was kidnapped by an organization claiming to be “holding her for ransom.” Because of this, the Vallejo Police Department should be held accountable for this atrocity. Here’s why:
Aaron Quinn was immediately taken to the station to be questioned after the incident. After the first interview, they deemed him to be a suspect. After many interrogations, the detectives were eventually unable to build a proper case against Aaron.
It seemed to be a lot more convenient for Aaron to be the bad guy. If that was the case, the Police Department would not have to spend as many resources to find the criminal. Since this was the case, the Police Department decided to focus on Aaron. Every resource in the station was focused on framing him as the suspect, meanwhile, Denise was a missing person, with no one looking for her.
The trauma and tragedy this woman endured during this time is devastating. The Vallejo Police Department’s incompetence contributed to this travesty. The evil organization was real, and the Police Station knew it was. The station had received multiple letters, threats, as well as phone calls to Aaron from the organization. The police had the opportunity to track the calls, but they didn’t.
Eventually, Denise was released from the organization. She was taken to her first home in Southern California. Immediately, the police were in contact with her. Contrary to what they had assumed upon her release, she was not willing to talk with them.
Media started to compare this case to the infamous movie “Gone Girl.” Because of the Vallejo P.D., the people had decided Denise and Aaron were liars, and all of it was a hoax. Days later, Denise built up the courage to talk about what had happened with these men, and the death threats against her and family that had prevented her from telling the police in the first place.
It wasn’t until it happened again, to another woman, that the police began to investigate the real criminal: A man who was an immigration attorney and a Marine Veteran. He was also a Harvard graduate. Nobody would have expected this kind of man to have a criminal record due to his educated background and service in the military.
To compensate for the suffering of not only Denise and Aaron, but the multiple other women that were assaulted or violated in any way by this man, the Vallejo Police Department should ultimately be prosecuted for their lack of effort.
