Northern California is known for its beautiful forest and landscapes. But it is also filled with beautiful lakes that are great for the summer time. The following places that will be discussed are great for the summer and great if you want to get out and see some beautiful views. Plus, they are all great for boating and fishing and many more fun summer activities!
One of the first lakes is located in Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe is located on the border of California and Nevada. Also one of the most famous lakes in the United States known for its beautiful water and mountains surrounding it. In the summer time it is a great place to camp, boat, and swim! With also many hiking trails all around it and incredible views. Not only is it beautiful and a great place to go in the summer, It is also great year round. Offering skiing and snowboarding on its mountains around the lake.
Another lake with great mountain views surrounding it is Clear Lake. Located near the town of Clear lake and Lakeport, it’s one of the largest natural freshwater lakes in California. It’s also another great lake for boating, fishing, and swimming. There are also tons of parks and places you could go with friends and family to have picnics. They have places you can rent boats to have fun boat days and to go fishing, too!
Close to Redding, there is Lake Shasta, which is California’s largest reservoir and is known for its beautiful water and views. It’s a great spot for boating. Its nice, clear water makes it an amazing place to go swimming. There are also so many places around the lake to go on adventures and explore. Lake Shasta is truly one of the most beautiful lakes in California and is an amazing place to be during the summer.
Near Lee Vining, in central California, there is Lake Mono. This lake is a salt water lake and is unique compared to the other lakes listed. This destination is surrounded by limestone formations that give this area a very unique look. A lot of people who enjoy bird watching tend to like to go to this lake for its variety of birds. Top things to do at this lake: exploring the limestone structures, bird watching, and swimming in the saltwater.
Lastly, Lake Mendocino, located near the town Ukiah, is the perfect lake to go boating and swimming during the summer. This lake has some great hiking trails and a great dock for boating. Also, it is an amazing place to go paddleboarding. The fishing here is also great with a wide variety of fish.
With Northern California’s wide and beautiful range of lakes, it’s perfect for whether you want to go boating, fishing, or just have a fun day on the water. From the fresh water reservoirs to Lake Mono having saltwater, there are many options of lakes in Northern California to enjoy relaxing and fun summer days at!
