President Trump is nothing but consistent. Posting wild or eye-catching commentary on the world’s political affairs is par for the course on Trump’s Instagram. However, people are beginning to think that he is starting to take it too far.
Recently, President Trump has said in several interviews that he wants to develop the Gaza Strip into land he can use for hotels and entertainment. He describes his vision as “the Riviera of the Middle East.” Or, as depicted in his video, a spot for wealthy non-natives to vacation.
This was extraordinarily topical, and many people were quite hurt by the prospect of the statement. Trump stated that the ground was already leveled and ready for building and development. This was very hurtful for the locals of Gaza as he glazed over the fact that more than 61,000 Palestinian people have passed away and many still remain under the rubble.
Adding insult to injury, Trump decides to use an AI video to make his point. This video is around a minute long, and it goes through scenes of what Trump would want Gaza to look like under his leadership. The video also plays a song that hails Trump as an icon and a savior of the land.
Trump is no stranger to making people upset, and the outcries of the Palestinian people can be heard here as well. Palestinian-Americans have been sharing their thoughts with the media. The BBC reached out to some Palestinians living in the United States and had some folks eagerly awaiting a chance to express their feelings. According to Iman Kishawi, a born and raised Palestinian who moved to America, “Our right of return is something we’ve thought about our whole lives.” She said she was “very angry” over what President Trump has said, asking, “Who are you to own the land?”
These concerns echo from the voices of many Palestinians who are worried that Trump may side with Hamas and actually make strides to push out the local people and create “Trump Gaza.”
