Disney Loses Millions on New Live Action Snow White

By Rell Conley

After the release of the new live action Snow White, millions of people are upset and many families are not going to see it in theaters.

The main reason people seem to be upset about the new Snow White character is because Disney got rid of the well-known light, soft spoken quality of her voice and replaced it with a harsh, strong voice. Disney also changed the story line by removing the love story, which was the main theme of the original. People also say the dress in the live action looks nothing like the original dress, looking cheap, which was surprising since this movie had such a large budget.

The film was released March 21st, 2025, and the budget for this movie was 209 million dollars. After being out for over a week, it had only made 100.2 million worldwide. At this rate, in order for Disney to break even they would have to keep it in theaters for much longer. However, incoming theater goers are expected to be watching the new MineCraft inspired film.

Snow White has been predicted to lose around 115 million dollars, leaving many blaming Rachel Zeglar—the actress portraying Snow White. Though, there are many factors that went into the movie’s failure, including Disney not casting real actors with dwarfism to depict the 7 dwarfs and instead using CGI.

Disney has been making live action remakes for years now, and the films never seem to do particularly well. After all of these failures, Disney is clearly having to reconsider  if they will continue to make live action movies or if they will (at the very least) take their audiences’ advice and critiques into account.
