Senioritis and the Final Push to Get Through the School Year

By Adrienne Morris

The one thing I can tell you to prepare you for the end of your senior year is that senioritis is a mindset. Senioritis is only real if you let it be. Let the excitement of the future motivate you to finish your high school years strong.

Unfortunately, the odds are that most of us won’t be able to get out of the senioritis mindset. It will be rough, but here’s some advice to push through the last couple months. “Lately, however, I have been finding it hard to focus. I don’t know if it’s the weather finally clearing up and Spring is here, the fact that I’m so burnt out after term after term of classes, or if I’m watching too much TV while I do homework. Whatever it is, I think I speak for a lot of Southern Oregon’s graduating student body when I say: it might be Senioritis.” Emily Perry

Consistency is many senior’s number one challenge. Attending school everyday and submitting work on time will challenge you mentally, but it will also increase your confidence in yourself to accomplish tasks. Create a schedule or a daily routine that you can follow. Get yourself into the groove of getting work done as the day progresses instead of putting it off till the last moment.

Secondly, prioritize your sleep! Although senior year is a busy and eventful time in your life, sleep is one of the main factors that contributes to an end of the year burn out. A consistent sleep schedule increases your focus and performance each day. Resist temptations. This does not mean miss out on fun events, but instead to not overindulge. Your future should be your main focus at this point in your life. Distractions can easily take over your mind, so knowing your limits is important. On the other hand, it is important to have fun (with a limit).

It is important to enjoy yourself during this time. If you are spending all your time studying, the school year will pass you by. You don’t want to look back on your senior year and regret missing so much of it. Take advantage of opportunities. This is another important lesson to learn before going to college. Expanding your horizons and making connections will eventually benefit you. Although it’s a little extra effort, you will be saving yourself in the long run, and that should be the goal!

This is the last push! Dedicate yourself to a schedule, and use this as an opportunity to prepare yourself for adulthood.
