Nintendo is Greedier than Before

By Leo Usselman

Nintendo, like all large scale corporations and conglomerates, seeks only the addition of popularity and sales so as to increase their profit. However, in recent times, this never-ending need for expansion has crossed new extremes. Nintendo is greedier than before.

Recently, Nintendo released news about a new three dimensional Mario game in development, about to be released. Upon hearing this, most people hoped that the newly announced game was to be either Super Mario Odyssey 2, or Super Mario Galaxy 3. Objectively, Super Mario Galaxy 3 would be the better option. It would make far more sense financially and would be far more pleasing for fans. This isn’t that far-fetched because Nintendo has said in the past that they “still had tons of ideas for the third game.”

Super Mario Odyssey held less nostalgia in people’s hearts, because it was a later release. Yet, despite this, a significant amount of gamers still wanted a second game to be released primarily due to how fun it was, and the quality that it was made with.

Nintendo, hearing this feedback, decided to make yet another Mario Kart game, despite the countless other possibilities, which far more fans were asking for. The reviews for the new release, Mario Kart World, are terrible, on top of that.

Subjectively speaking, this is the worst decision Nintendo could have made. This is for a variety of reasons, especially with the addition of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to the Switch. The Mario Kart fanbase was already well satisfied with all of the games that have been released. So, we can inculcate that on top of not listening to their fanbase whatsoever, they decided to increase the price per game from 60 dollars to 90-100 dollars. If that isn’t greedy enough, they decided to increase the price of Switch 2 to 450 dollars. With over 150 million people who play Nintendo, this is completely unreasonable and unnecessary.

Nintendo is catering their games to rich people, and, in the process, they are cutting off a huge proportion of their fanbase who now won’t be able to afford the new games. Many reviews claimed 60 dollars was simply way too much for their games, and Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom being 70 dollars and lower quality than Breath of the Wild upset the fanbase even further. The solution to this problem would be easy: lower the price of the new console and the new games by up to even 50%. Objectively, their games are not even worth over 50 dollars, besides Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which was their best release to date.
