Lana Del Rey: Greatest Singer of Our Decade

     Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, professionally known as Lana Del Rey, is one of the most iconic artists of her decade. She is a completely unique artist who doesn’t resemble anybody in the music industry. Many say she has created her own genre of music. She is widely known around the world and considered one of the best singers of the decade with her unique music style and heavenly voice. Her music genre would be considered a more modern pop but with older retro vibes. Many say her music brings them back to the 60s or Hollywood era. Her most famous albums Ultraviolence and Born To Die have insane vocals and iconic songs that makes Lana Del Ray different from other artists today. 

     Her song lyrics can be seen as controversial with her sometimes strange yearnings, but at the end of the day they are just lyrics that fit her style. Lana sings about many complex themes, such as love, heartbreak, and sadness. Her lyrics are raw and emotional, and she does not hold back on what she wants to say. With her angelic voice she can make any song sound out of this world. She also is great at writing poetry and has released a few poems to the public, which show her talent for writing in general. One reason her music is so adored by supporters is because they are so relatable for many and really capture one’s vulnerability and a specific rawness that makes her music so beautifully unique and real.

     Her breakthrough that really put her name out there was her performance at Coachella in 2012, where many people discovered their love for her after hearing her music for the first time. Everyone thought it was unique but felt old like she had been alive since the 1960s. She became an influence to many. Her song “Video Games” also introduced her to the world that showed how good of an artist she was, and how great she would become. 

     She, of course, often faced criticism from the public for her different voice and vibe, which is nothing new as a new artist. Despite some backlash and embarrassing moments Del Rey stayed true to herself and didn’t let people bring her down. She has developed a large fanbase of people that truly love her music and has about 57,000,000 million monthly listeners. 

     Lana Del Rey gained so much popularity over the years, and she has stayed consistent with new beautiful albums every other year or so. Her most popular albums consist of Ultraviolence, Born To Die, Paradise, Norman F Rockwell, and many more. She experienced with different styles and instruments for each album showing her wonderful growth as an artist. Her consistent blend of high pitched vocals that sound almost haunting and poetic lyrics keep her fans wanting more. Lastly, Lana Del Rey has influenced so many newer artists with her style, changing the past sound of contemporary pop, and alternative music. Artists like Billie Eilish, Halsey, and Lorde have all given Lana Del Rey credit for their own music and said her music has done more to them than simply inspire them. Lana Del Rey’s ability to always stay relevant and shape the new generation of pop and alternative music has shown how great she really is proving she is a lasting artist in the world today.
