Recently on Tik Tok, a new trend has sparked the interest of the younger generations that seemingly makes no sense. This trend is Italian Brainrot. Italian Brainrot consists of AI generated images that usually feature an animal morphed with another object, and then it is given a catchy Italian name. Some of the most popular characters are called Ballerina Capuchina, Tralalero Tralala, and Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Sahur. Each of these images has an AI voice with an Italian accent saying their name, followed by a short backstory on who the character is.
This trend started off as just a few silly memes but has now gone too far. Over 100 characters have been created and many of them have been memorized by lots of teens on TikTok. There have also been AI stories, character narratives, and fanfictions created with some of the main characters. There are even AI songs about them. Many people on the internet have also started to worry about the names of these characters and the AI backstories in Italian that follow the names of these characters.
Since the names and stories are in Italian, many people are just saying them without knowing what they mean or what they’re actually saying. It’s been rumored that one of the most popular characters, Tralalero Tralala, says in his backstory that his name means “pig god” in Italian. This made a lot of people on TikTok who found this trend funny posting themselves saying the names. They later posted apologies, seeming very regretful for saying it. It’s also sparked these trend-followers to question what the other Italian names and backstories mean, since they have been saying all of them non-stop.
Overall, this trend has been a lesson to many to not participate or say things that they don’t know the meaning of or what they’re saying.
