Did you know that almost all professional stadiums for sports implement a clear bag policy? Lots of stadiums such as the 49ers home stadium, the Levis stadium, made this rule for 2 main reasons. One reason was to make a safer environment. When going into the stadium and through security, it makes it easier for officers to see what’s stored in your bag and let you through without taking extra time. The clear bag policy also helps with long lines getting into the stadium.
Benicia High Vice Principal Jacob Smith says the bag policy was implemented, “In order to increase the safety of all students, spectators, and athletes.”
Benicia High School also implemented this rule for all sporting events this year. The school also fulfilled these rules for the same reasons as all these other stadiums. To keep our students and families safe. Some of the new guidelines for the clear bag policy is:
- Clear plastic bags with a max length and height of 12 in will be allowed in.
- Bags that do not exceed 4.5”x 6.5” can be carried separately and/or in a plastic bag.
- Any medical bags, diaper bags, etc must be accompanied by an adult.
Lamont Wright (9th grade) said that the clear bag policy seems like a, “Cool new policy, but I don’t want to buy a clear backpack for games”.
One of our campus supervisors, Joanna Fulqui, said on the new policy that students will be more focused on the game rather than their belongings. Ms. Fulqui also said that it will make her job harder to check bags but easier to see what kids are bringing in with them.
Overall, the new clear bag policy for all sporting and game events can make a positive impact, but also a negative impact. On one hand this can make a safer environment and “see what shenanigans” students are bringing in with them, just like Ms. Fulqui said. But on the other hand it could also make it harder for campus supervisors, and our BHS staff. How do you think this could change the Benicia High environment?
