Link Crew & It’s Impact

By Emma Melvin

Link Crew is a volunteer organization recruiting upperclassmen to guide incoming freshmen through their first year of high school. The shift from junior high to high school is a drastic change, Link Crew offers the support and guidance that the 9th graders will need along the way of this journey.

There are about 70 student leaders in Link Crew. The groups are divided into 2 leaders per group of about 10-12 freshmen. Link Crew has 4 teachers who are in charge of events for the freshmen and running this organization, Mr. Cristian, Ms. Sakamoto, Ms. Sauter, and Ms. Shaw.

Each freshman at BHS has met their 2 leaders, and has their contact information for resources and support. A teacher and volunteer for Link Crew at BHS says “I joined the program because coming to high school can be scary for anyone, and having leaders willing to guide the middle schoolers into high school is wonderful. Being a part of this program is an honor and privilege,” Ms. Sakamoto.

The transition from middle school to high school is a big change in the lives of these freshmen. Link crew offers the emotional support and guidance that the 9th graders will need along the way of this journey.
