The Misconceptions on Paganism

By Emma Melvin

As a hellenic pagan, there are often many misconceptions I hear in my day-to-day life, including satanism and what we truly worship.

To start things off you may be wondering what a hellenic pagan is. A hellenic pagan is someone who believes in, and works with the Greek gods. And a Satanist is a person who worships the deity named Satan. A figure from hell, as known from the bible.

The term “Pagan” means a person who worships nature, this is an umbrella term, so there are many different branches of this religion, in which most of them are polytheistic.

Unlike christianity, the ancient Greek religion does not have a heaven or hell. All the dead are sent to the underworld under the care of Hades and Persephone, the god and goddess or the underworld. All are treated and seen as equal, regardless of their actions in their life. Due to hellenic pagans not believing in hell, it would be impossible for us to worship a deity that we do not believe is real.

Most pagans do spell work and manifestations to bring positivity to their life. Not negativity to others, only a portion place hexes. Hexes are never used to send someone harm, they are used to send the same karma back to the person who wronged you. Regardless, not all pagans do this spell work.

Overall, these are some of the common misconceptions of paganism. There are numerous more including our intentions, our practices and tools we use.
