Video games have swept the youth in popularity over the past years, with most teens in the US playing games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty, or even Minecraft. All of these games offer teenagers a fun experience in a virtual game with their friends or family.
But these games are much more than “games,” they can also be seen as art. Certain games can make people feel certain ways, influencing behavior in the youth, and how they see the world. In this article, I will be ranking the five best video games out there right now, and justifying each of these claims based on my own personal experience.
5. GTA V Online
GTA V offers two types of gameplay: a campaign/story mode, and an online mode. However, when comparing the two, GTA Online easily beats out the story mode. While the story mode does have very interesting aspects such as emotional trouble, crime, and very stressful situations that challenge the player, the online version of the game offers the player to do whatever they want in the city of San Andreas. Ranging from starting an illegal business to conducting heists on a billionaire’s island by the name of Cayo Perico, the online mode offers so much for the player to do in a world of endless possibilities. The online world of this game is fully customizable, and the boundaries of this mode are truly only set by the player themselves.
4. A Way Out
A Way Out is a two-player co-op game, where you and your friend must play as two different characters, Vincent and Leo, who both are tasked with escaping prison. Throughout the game, the two players must strategize their way of getting out of prison alive, and without getting caught, in order to achieve their goal of returning to their families at home.
However, the game takes a serious turn at the end of the game, where one of the characters in the game undergoes a serious plot twist, leaving the player in shock. A fellow student at Benicia High School, Brady Gibbons, states, “I think it was a very intriguing and impactful game, and really makes me think about my true friendships.” This is seriously one of the best two player games to ever exist, leaving both players left stunned in different ways. The replay value of this game is short, however, due to the fact that you can really only experience it twice, playing as each character.
3. Terraria
Terraria is a game that most people consider as a “rip-off” or “a 2-D version” of the hit game, Minecraft. However, it is much more than that. Terraria is a fully customizable open-world game where you kill bosses, collect items, and ultimately progress through the storyline of the game.
The bosses of this game are some of the most creative, and intense bossfights of any game out there, and require the player to have ultra-fast reflexes to dodge the attacks.
Aside from the base game of Terraria, which provides the player with loads of content, there are also other free mods for the game as well, such as the Calamity Mod. This mod adds over sixty new bosses to the game, as well as thousands of new weapons and locations to discover, all for free.
The replayability of this game is very good because each time you play it, you can use different items and be a different character. This game is one of the best of all time because it provides the player with tons of some of the most enjoyable content ever created.
2. Red Dead Redemption 2
RDR2 is a game that consists of a story of a fictional cowboy, living in the 17th century. The story starts off with the main character, Arthur Morgan, and his peers as they travel through the snow with their wagon group, trying to find a place to settle.
The story focuses on Arthur’s connections with the people around him such as John Marston, Dutch, Micah Bell, and others. Throughout the campaign story, Arthur goes through many hardships and serious events as he tries to escape the law with his crew, while also constructing heists, bounties, and other various crimes.
However, towards the end of the story, many twists happen in the story, leaving the player shocked and invested in the outcome in the story. There are four endings in the story, and all the endings are controlled by the player. This game is the second best open-world, player decisive, and free roam game of all time.
1. Elden Ring
Elden Ring is the best game of all time. This game offers so much to the player throughout its entirety, consisting of hundreds of bosses to kill; a fully explorable, beautifully designed world; and tons of items and endings to find as well.
The game takes the player through a journey to reach the base of the Erdtree, a massive tree in the middle of the map that controls the life of the world. As the player tries to reach it, they are presented with challenges such as navigation, bosses, and tough enemies to deal with that can make the game very challenging.
Aside from the base game, the creators of the game actually released the DLC to the game last summer, including an entire new map, and loads of new bosses and weapons to discover. The visuals of this game are stunning, and everything about this game is so beautifully crafted, except Metyr, Mother of Fingers. If you have not played this game, I highly recommend that you give it a shot.
