Trump sends National Guard to Chicago

By Mia Warren

Five Hundred National Guard troops have arrived in Chicago this past week, and are ordered to stay for a total of 60 days. Members from both Texas and Illinois are now in Chicago. People feel threatened that they will flood the streets with mayhem.

Despite the lawsuit against their deployment. President Trump has stated his decision to send the troops there in the first place was due to the “out of control crime” and the mayor’s “ failure to protect ICE agents”.

The citizens of Chicago are not happy about the sudden army of troops in their home. The state of Illinois and the city of Chicago sued to stop the Trump administration from deploying the national guard on the streets in Chicago, but still they remain in the city.

For weeks Trump has been discussing sending troops to several cities such as Washington DC,Portland, Chicago, and possibly San Francisco. In an effort to stop the high crime rates and further enforce immigration services.

Many people in Chicago are angered and calling this an invasion by Trump, they have started protests in the streets and shared they feel more unsafe with them there, and feel it is the use of unnecessary force and power.

The Governor of Chicago, JB Pritzker shared in a statement, “We must now start calling this what it is, Trump’s invasion, it started with federal agents and it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois national guard against our wishes.”

Pritzker is determined to put a stop to Trump and protect Illinois, he shared on social media that he will not back down. Trump responded on Truth Social saying, “Pritzker and the Chicago mayor should be in jail.” The conflict between the President and people of Illinois is growing strong and the citizens will not bow down to Trump without a fight.

In a recent anti-ICE protest, violence broke out in the street in front of an ICE facility leading to many arrests, and chaos from ICE agents against the people. Despite the dangers and risks people make to stand for what they believe is right, it shows how people come together in times like today. Citizens use their voice to stand up against the government and try to make change, despite the risks it can bring them, the government and the people continue their feud.
