The new sequel to the movie “Black Phone” came out October 17, called “Black phone 2.” The first movie came out in June of 2022 and got mixed reviews.
While one critic says on Rotten Tomatoes, “The Black Phone is another example of trying too hard to be cerebrally but failing miserably.” Another person says, “The Black Phone reunites [Sinister’s] creative team for a film that skillfully employs old-school horror and popcorn excitement”
In the first movie the main character Finney, played by Mason Thames, is abducted by a cruel killer; the killer keeps Finney in a soundproof basement. But when a disconnected phone on the wall rings, Finney discovers he can talk to the killer’s previous victims, and they help him escape.
The first movie made over $161 million dollars all over the world, despite their $18 million budget.
Black Phone 2 is about Finney, who is now 17, and his little sister. Finney’s little sister starts getting calls in her dreams and visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp. IMDB ratings say the movie is 6.7/10. While some reviewers say “The Black Phone 2 is a worthy sequel.” Others think the complete opposite, saying things like, “The perfect example of when somebody should’ve stopped” and “Some movies should not be sequels”.
Black Phone 2 continues a recent trend of horror/thriller sequels, including, The Conjuring 2, Five Nights At Freddy’s 2,but viewers are still eager for more.
“I am going to see Black Phone 2 and I’m very excited,” Benicia High School freshman, Lainey Neilsen, said.
The film is also attracting new viewers to the franchise. James Jounevnet Sells, a freshman , stated, “I’m going to see Black Phone 2, but I didn’t see the first one.”
Black Phone 1 & 2 have gotten very different reviews so far. Some people say they love it and it was worth the watch while others disagree and say it wasn’t worth their time.
