What Was Hot in 2015?

By Zoie Osborne

Music is such a key aspect to life for many, and throughout your life you are bound to see the changes in the music world many times. These changes come through what kind of music styles are in or who’s the most popular artist.

Because of this, I wanted to go back in time a little, to see what hit music was like a decade ago. 2015’s top music was heavily filled with R&B, Rap, and Pop genres. It also had many social media trends along with it, so here are some songs from the Top 100 Billboard List of 2015.

     Hotline Bling – Drake

Featured on Drake’s album Views, Hotline Bling is one of his most notable songs. Sampled from “Why Can’t We Live Together” by Timmy Thomas. Drake’s version falls in the R&B and Pop genre. This catchy song also brought along many memes from the dance done in the music video.

Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars

This pop hit that everyone loves till this day has a strong instrumental beat with percussion and horns with the help of synthesizers. Given in the name, the song consists of aspects from the Funk genre, making the song very groovy and danceable for all.

     Watch Me – Silentó

One of the most popular trends of 2015, Watch Me, also known as the Whip and Nae Nae, took the internet by storm with videos of everyone doing the dance all over the internet. Play this song now and no matter the age, everyone will definitely still join in and dance. The song itself has a very groovy rhythm, where you just have to move your head to the beat. This song was featured in Just Dance 2017, and is personally my favorite dance in Just Dance.

      Bad Blood – Taylor Swift

Off of Taylor’s first official pop album, Bad Blood featuring Kendrick Lamar became an iconic music video with a futuristic feel, including many of your favorite female celebrities. The song itself has a very “good girl gone bad” tone with the visuals from the music video, the lyrics, even the much more hard hitting rock-ish beat. This song quickly charted number one after the release of the music video.
