Safety Concerns Rising Over Roblox

By Payton Bayes

Ever wonder what your child is doing for all the countless hours spent on Roblox? Does the thought of Roblox being public and accessible to anyone and any age make you uncomfortable at all?

October 20th of 2025, Republican Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier states that Roblox has become a problem focusing on how it’s a “breeding ground for predators”. This isn’t something you should ignore especially if your child religiously plays Roblox.

How can we avoid your child interacting with predators? When creating an account it helps to set the birthday to the actual year of your child’s birthdate. This way, it prevents your child from accessing their mic and limiting them to inappropriate games until they are of age.

Teaching them basic ways to avoid people asking for specific information or weird interactions is important as well especially when all servers are public. Leaving the server is just a great option when it comes to being in this kind of situation.

Mia Fimeres, a student at Benicia High School, says that, “When my friend and I had played the game Neighbors on Roblox a month ago, we encountered an older man.” This game consists of children all the way up to adults.

This became an easier way for predators to reach out because of the access to mic from the new update. In this game, “He asked for things like our age and where we were from.” They could have handled the situation better by leaving but because they wanted to stay, they ignored him and lied until he left them alone. If it gets to a point where ignoring isn’t enough for them to leave you alone, this is when leaving the server is a great idea.

Always being aware of your children’s safety is super important not only for them but for you as well. I recommend that the next time you find your child playing on Roblox, to take a second and tell them how to react wisely in this situation.
