On December 18, 2025 Donald Trump announced a sports competition called the patriot games. This entails the top high school athlete female and male from each state to compete in competitions to determine who is the best in the country. The reason for this sudden competition is to celebrate the 250th birthday of the U.S.
A quote from Gabriel Soriano Llamas saying, “This is a good idea but there are many things I don’t understand about this and there isn’t enough information.”
There is much information that is missing from his announcement such as how they are going to make the choice of who is the best athlete male and female from each state. The question is what sort of sport will they play since they are only choosing 1 player of each gender. The only information is the event will be 4 days and held in Washington DC during the fall of 2026.
There is also a restriction people are talking about such as transgender players are not allowed to compete at all. Also some other choices to determine who will be accepted to play like what ages are allowed to compete. According to the information it is only high school students 1 male and 1 female are chosen.
There are also the concerns on will they be reimbursed and what about them missing classes. Another concern is grades are only going by athletic ability or are they including grades into their selection process.
Some people speculate that there will be sports like track and field but others think there could be team sports like basketball, football, and baseball but this makes things more difficult for the selection process. How are you going to make the choice of the top athlete when you can’t know the sports or what the standards are?
