2025 was a very important year for American politics. It has marked new bounds for government control and has shown major flaws in the electoral system, by allowing convicted felons into office. We have seen abuse of power and political scandals like we have never seen before in the history of modern politics.
We started off 2025 with the start of Trump’s presidency. Trump declared a 25% increase on tariff taxes. This de-stabilized the US and global economy and had wider implications for whether the president should be and is allowed to have such drastic control over the global and local economy of the US.
We continue forward into January 20th with the creation of the DOGE. Which was headed by Elon Musk, also one of Trump’s biggest funders. DOGE is a very controversial branch causing massive layoffs, this being backed by Trump’s Schedule F. Over 317,000 were laid off from various programs with benefits; and over 24,000 were laid off without benefits of any sorts. DOGE fired thousands based on political ideology and “efficiency”.
On January 23, ICE started ramping up efforts under support from Trump. ICE targeted Mexican Americans and immigrants. Whether it was legal or not they deported over 605,000 people this year alone. They patrol streets and low income neighborhoods, they illegally enter homes, and violently detain the people they deport. Most notably they deported Jose Barco, a military veteran and purple heart recipient.
On January 20th, Trump cut the foreign aid budget by 80%. While not as crazy as the other cuts, this cut of aid has doomed millions of people in foreign countries that require aid to survive. The act would have killed millions of preventable deaths. Luckily due to protests by foreign rights groups the administration of foreign aid was given the amount required to keep vital foreign aid going.
Moving out of January and into October 2025, we have one of the longest Government Shutdowns. This event was massive, as the government stopped paying workers and shut down parks for a month and a half. This was a terrible event that ruined many people’s lives.
On November 12th when the government shutdown ended, Congress passed the new funding bill. Which contained many things but most notably contained a clause that didn’t allow the FBI to investigate any government official without notifying them. Violation of this clause would result in a half a million dollar fine. This was put in place due to the Arctic Frost investigation which exposed Trump for attempting to rig the 2020 election.
Now on December 19th the US government finally released the Epstein files. While only releasing 1% of it unredacted the government has thousands of photos of politicians and Trump in Epstein’s airplane and accounts of Trump with kids on the island.
Lastly we have the US invasion and blockade of Venezuela which is happening right now. When questioned Trump said, “We will run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition,we can’t take a chance that someone else takes over Venezuela who doesn’t have the interests of Venezuelans say,” This is the first time the US has done anything like this since what the CIA did in Latin America.
This year has been one of the wildest and most unstable years in politics since the revolutionary area of the world when the US became its own country. And we are only a year into this tyrannical and wild leader’s 4 year term.
