Fairy Tales are Good for Children

By Payton Bayes

All fairy tales have meanings to them. Whether it’s a lesson or not, how is it beneficial? Stories told to children go way back first starting with cultural groups that create mindsets for the children as they are growing up into adults.

Fairy tales are known for being a big part of child development giving them the skills they take with them as they grow up. The National Storytelling Network lets us know that being able to understand and carry these stories open their mind to more creativity, responsibility, and discovery.

Popular tales like The Three Little Pigs, The Ugly Duckling, Little Red Riding Hood, ect. all create different ways of viewing life skills and lessons.

From creativity to problem solving and even memory skills, these stories come with all different types of new ways to stabilize the development of your child. Even if the stories don’t seem much more than a fun tale to your child, the older they get they will then realize all the deeper meanings these stories hold.

Children’s Museum Of Sonoma County offers groups and programs for visiting the adventure of growth in children skills along with all ages who want to reach the level of creativity. They believe that these tales will, “…benefit them throughout their lives.” That these stories are magical and bring a fun way to learning.

The adult in my household says, “Fairy tales were a big part of my childhood leaving me with lessons and stories I’ll always remember. They helped through my childhood by teaching me things and skills I may have not wanted to learn by just reading a book or something. Even later on when I find more depth to the tales it keeps me thinking and wondering while taking those lessons for better choices in my life.”

When kids approach the end of the day in their busy life, it may be hard to fall asleep in a dark room with a mindset of scary monsters. These moments are great examples for why story time is a great idea. Not only are they good for skillful moments, they are also great for times when you need positive comfort.

Keeping an open mind to these tails and carrying them with you may bring positivity and life skills you’ll find to use in your daily life. Even creating new ones with family can be memorable while being useful all along.
