Thoughts on the Upcoming Elective Fair

By Priya Reed

If you got to learn anything in school what class should they have? This week Thursday, January 15th there will be an elective fair. Students are able to choose which electives they will like to have next year and or which elective they should add to the school.

While electives are fun classes that are core requirements or college credited classes. How can these electives actually shape students’ futures ? Electives can influence what students pursue for their careers. It can shape their futures by preparing them for employment or letting students explore their potential for career paths.

Students can be more interactive when their schools give them opinions to pick which electives can be added to their school. In a student perspective it can show that teachers and principles are listening to these students and building a

community within the school life.

From a teacher perspective it actually can be very difficult adding classes within the school. Including classroom supplies, which are within teacher paychecks which are called out of pocket classrooms. This leads to educators adjusting to inflation.

We can fix this problem by school fairs funded by the school. Teachers can sign up for sales alerts which proves e-commercials and offers discounts for signing up and free shipping on an oline website.

Mr Or’reilly answer to What are you looking forward to with this elective fair was,  “I’m always excited to add new classes to the school, because it shows that students actually want to add new classes.”

Toni S’s Response to question; What are you looking forward to with this elective fair were, “I wish they had a Culinary art/cooking class, because I wanna learn how to cook just In general and with the people around me, It just seems like it would be fun. Also other schools like in different states or cities have some of these classes and they say “It’s super fun.”

Shaniya T replied to; What are you looking forward to with this elective fair was, “ I wish they had an early childhood Development class because I feel like after middle school we just don’t talk about adult life outside of work, I think It’s something that’s looked over and still needs to be taught because kids my age are becoming teen moms. Which It teaches us and prepares us with fake babies to simulate parenthood.”

Something big here In  these interviews were comparing to other schools. It is important that in the Elective fair there  should be new options that weren’t there last year. Students can make a direct message to the principal or student counsel  with ideas of electives to be added next year.
