As of 2022, White Hutchinson had taken a poll for “America’s favorite ice cream flavors”. As a result, vanilla came in first with a whopping 59% vote. Up right after was chocolate that carried a 51%. With a close dual between the two, no other ice cream had a chance of winning but is vanilla really better? Does chocolate deserve to stay in second place?
Chocolate’s flavor profile carries a rich, deep, cocoa flavor. As for being very rich and smooth, chocolate can be comforting for the soul.
SweeHeng mentions in their passage about desserts and their connection to happiness that, “Consuming sweet foods stimulates the release of dopamine and serotonin, neurotransmitters that contribute to feelings of pleasure and satisfaction.”
Chocolate offers the relief of a craving that many people may not have with vanilla. Chocolate is very bold especially if you were to get a darker kind of chocolate. Dark chocolate provides many antioxidants as well as iron that may be the reason you sometimes crave chocolate.
Vanilla has a subtle profile that keeps people coming back for more. Vanilla ice cream isn’t too overwhelming and can hit a lot of sweet notes with a premium creamy profile. Vanilla is a great way to leave a soft touch to your day.
Chocolate and vanilla ice cream are liked by many people, and they are both delicious in their own ways, although chocolate may have some downsides to it like the deep roasted after taste that may be unpleasant.
Vanilla may not be rich enough for that craving leaving you wanting more as a result of being unsatisfied. Brooke Krous, a student at Benicia High, states that she absolutely loves chocolate ice cream when she’s really in the mood for it. “It’s indulgent and perfect paired with a cone for a late night craving,” she said. On days where she wants a light dessert or even when she’s out hanging out with her friends, if she doesn’t get a fruity ice cream, her go to would be vanilla ice cream.
Sometimes the best way to go is to get both! Jeremy Bayes says, “When I’m choosing between chocolate or vanilla ice cream I like to get a mix of both so that it hits every craving and leaves me in a happy mood. They balance each other out giving it a flavor even better then them separated.”
Either you like vanilla ice cream or chocolate ice cream, both are great in their own ways depending on your mood and the occasion! You may even get them swirled when you’re feeling torn between the two.
