State of the Winning

By Nolan Karlitz

The State of the Union was a turnout, with Trump breaking records of the longest State of the Union address. His main agenda consisted of the country’s financial standing, followed by his current standing on the immigration and border security. He also touched on the topic of foreign policy and national security speaking about Iran and other global conflicts that he “resolved”.

Wow…I mean, where should I start? How about the fact that Trump has people calling him and saying things, such as, “Our country is winning again. In fact, we’re winning so much that we really don’t know what to do about it. People are asking me, ‘Please, please, please, Mister President, we’re winning too much. We can’t take it anymore.’”

So, I’m not too sure who is currently “winning,” but the working class definitely isn’t. Oh snap! That’s right–the top one percent of America are the only winners here. According to CNBC, “The top 10% of Americans added $5 trillion to their wealth in the second quarter as the stock market rally continued to benefit the biggest investors, according to new Federal Reserve data.”

So in April, May and June of 2025 the top 10% added 5 trillion dollars to their accumulated wealth. Well, at least the stock markets allow for the working class to become rich as well, right? Wait, never mind– according to A Wealth Of Common Sense, around 87% of the stocks in this country are controlled by the top 10%.

I guess we aren’t winning? While some may argue that trickle down economics is the best way for the lower classes and working classes and according to David Hope from the London School of Economics and Political Science states, “In 2017, when Donald Trump was introducing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, he claimed to the American people that this would be rocket fuel for the US economy. We don’t find any evidence in our study across 18 advanced economies over 50 years of that being true.”  Along with seeing charts from United for Fair Economy it can be analyzed that tax cuts for the rich do not lead to a higher GDP.

It’s so great that our country’s immigration enforcement is so good we can shoot our own citizens! Wait, that doesn’t sound great…well, lets try, “We are good at kicking hard working people out of our country!…I guess that doesn’t sound great either…Uh…well…moving on from our “wins”, wait we’re in our “Golden era” so we can’t not win.

During his babbling, Trump mentioned something about having zero illegal aliens admitted in our country in the last 9 months. My apologies. Between all of this winning I forgot why we want to kick out people who cross mountain ranges, valleys, and oceans come to our country with likely little English speaking abilities along with slim to none of personal connections and steal your job.

So if someone passes all of those obstacles and steals your job, maybe it’s an issue of sitting on your butt. So, maybe like the saying goes hate the game not the player. The argument that more jobs for US citizens, doesn’t make sense either because if you worked hard enough to get jobs that had a higher pay than minimum wage there wouldn’t be jobs to take and also if your company pays more the minimum wage they likely have value in their workers so they will likely not try to employ illegal immigrants for less money.

Lets keep winning! Does Trump resolve conflicts? Or is he just left out of the conversations– I mean, maybe with all of the T-Rex arm dancing, other leaders began to think he was a large man with the actions of a four-year-old who is refusing to eat their broccoli. Dang-it–my memory is foggy from all of this winning again. Wait, didn’t Trump say something about ending the war between Russia and Ukraine in the first 24 hours of being in office.

We aren’t really winning and Trump is using the tactic of associating himself with winning to build his public appearance. What no! I’m just suggesting rather than give our country white lies of being in our “Golden era” and approaching issues within our country with hate isn’t the correct way of helping our country. While many things Trump says are questionable things, his idea of making the United States great again isn’t that terrible. If we drop the “again” to add inclusivity, and we enforce the issues with more love than hatred, then it wouldn’t be that terrible of an idea.
