Stuck Between a Pool and Beach

By Payton Bayes

We all know and love the beach that provides beautiful views of the sunset, relaxing noise, wildlife, and more. While the ocean can be our natural source of swimming, the pool also has benefits and may be preferred more to many people.

Pools offer a mess free way for swimming. They also are often cleaner because of the added chlorine. Along with safety and privacy, the pool can be a great option for younger kids or relaxation.

In the article, Plunge San Diego, I found that the author finds more convenience in pools rather than beaches. They state that, “…can be difficult to access and overcrowded during peak season, swimming pools are easy to find and usually not crowded.”

As the article continues, the writer goes over the safety differences between the two being whether or not which one is more sanitary. The ocean carries more bacteria creating some concerns towards people visiting. Pools are often cleaned regularly but come with the downside of chlorine.

Now you may be thinking that pools may be an option that would be best for you. But have you ever thought of the effects from chlorine?

In the passage, Aqua All Aqua Pools, mention that Chlorine causes itchy skin, dry brittle hair, and wouldn’t be suitable for sensitive skin along with the scent of strong chemicals. “One of the most noticeable differences between saltwater and chlorine pools is how the water feels. Saltwater systems generate chlorine naturally through electrolysis, which produces a gentler, more stable concentration of sanitizer.” If both pools and beaches aren’t in the suites for you, try considering salt water pools!

Salt water pools are most definitely cleaner than beaches while also being less chemical filled as a traditional pool leaving a softer more relaxing swim. A few students from Benicia High School raise a vote to show their love for the beach more than the pool.

A 9th grade Benicia High student, Clara Whitlock says, “I love going to the beach and enjoying the natural way of swimming along with the vibe but I don’t necessarily like the cons that come with it. Especially when the beach has a chance of not being taken care of very well.” I’ve heard mixed feedback of liking both beach and pool. I’ve also heard a lot of thought processes behind their decisions.

When it comes down to picking between a beach and pool, salt water pools are a great balance between the two and may be a better option for you if you are torn between the two.
