Ramsey Robinson: California’s Zohran Mamdani

By Robin Bruno

`Tis the season for a new governor for California and we’ve got some options folks. But one has a plan to actually help California not be so unfair.

Ramsey Robinson is running for governor, to fight for the working people of California, not the billionaires. But before we go voting around, let’s figure out if he has good intentions and knows what he’s doing.

Robinson is a Cal State LA graduate who has a masters degree in Social Work, which he merged with grassroots activism. According to his about me page when you google his name, “Ramsey is a dedicated mental health social worker, organizer, and revolutionary based in San Francisco.”

While he was at Cal State, he would actively participate as a member of the Social Justice Caucus, helping strategize campaigns to bring awareness to mental health care.

In an interview with Vanguard Journalist Malik Washington, Robinson is asked what issues his campaign is planning on addressing. He says, “For our campaign that all of us in California will have guaranteed healthcare, (…) regardless of immigration status.”  As well as saying that he is, “going to build 1.4 million affordable, beautiful homes,” ensuring that we all have a roof over our heads.

Some of his early work consisted of collaborations with Glendale Unified School District Board Member Nayiri Nahabedian in order to expand children’s access to a higher education.

Additionally, he has founded and supports a Student Socialist Club at the high school, which encourages the next generation to organize, “Know Your Rights trainings for their community amidst the growing threat of ICE raids on undocumented communities,” which is also found on his about me page.

Another amazing thing Ramsey has done, is that he is providing academic encouragement, mentorship, and safe spaces for growth for the at-risk youth  on Skid Row.

Ramsey Robinson is fighting for a future where people deserve to be free from oppression, where they are able to not only survive but thrive.
