Some people say that golf should be considered a sport, but it really doesn’t look like it should be one.
When you think of playing a sport you would think of sweating, running around, and getting some form of exercise by moving around a lot, but in golf there is none of that.
In golf, the players just stand around and swing a golf club, and are so lazy that they have to use a golf cart to get to the next hole. Doing this doesn’t seem anywhere near the amount of effort put into sports like basketball, or soccer, where you’re constantly running around/moving.
Another reason why golf is not a real sport is because of how long it takes. One round of golf takes hundreds of hours to finish and is as slow as a sloth. I asked a student at BHS, Tyler Kacalek the question, “Do golf rounds take a long time?” His response was, “Yes, sometimes they can even take up to 100 hours.” Not just that but during this time, the other players are just waiting around for their turn to swing, not even getting any exercise in, which is what would have happened in a REAL sport.
Waiting around for that long seems very boring, because imagine watching a basketball game where players took hundreds of hours just to take turns making a shot. That would be very boring to watch as it has no climax or entertainment, like in golf.
Golf is also so boring, that nobody even watches it. According to golfsucks.com, it is said that nobody watches golf on the tv because it is a “waste of time”. Comparing the amount of people that watch football on Sundays to the amount of people that watch golf when it airs EVERYDAY, is such a big difference you wouldn’t even be able to count.
Golf courses also take up a lot of space/grass, and use so much money. A golf course takes up thousands of acres of space, and costs so much money. This is because of the water that needs to be used to keep the grass green and refreshed, all of this money could be used on real sports, and the big acres of land could be used for parks, houses, etc.
Overall, golf may technically be considered a sport, but it really should not be one. It’s super slow, expensive, and not in any way exciting to watch. Honestly if standing around swinging a ball every couple of minutes is considered a sport then we might as well call sweeping a sport, I mean you’re walking around swinging something around with your arms just like in golf right?
