The chakra system ideology originated between 1500 BCE to 500 BCE in ancient India; found in the Verdas. The Verdas are one of the oldest sacred texts in the world that are still surviving.
The term ‘Chakras’ refers to seven spiritual points along your spine that are believed to have corresponding physical, emotional and spiritual properties.
The Root Chakra (Muladhara) is located at the base of the spine. The properties of this chakra include: stability, grounding, safety and basic survival needs. If this chakra is balanced, some indicators include: physical stability, feeling confident and grounded. Signs of blockage include: anxiety, fear and financial insecurity.
The Sacral Chakra (Svadhistana) is located at the lower abdomen. The properties of this chakra include: creativity, pleasure, and emotional intelligence. If this chakra is balanced, some indicators include: healthy boundaries, adaptability, emotional intelligence and creativity. Signs of blockage include: fear of change, lack of creativity, and emotional numbness.
The Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) is located at the upper abdomen. The properties of this chakra include: willpower, self esteem and confidence. If this chakra is balanced, some indicators include: high confidence, motivation and healthy decision making skills. Signs of blockage include: feelings of helplessness, low self esteem, fear of rejection, and overactive behavior.
The Heart Chakra (Anahata) is located at the center of your chest. The properties of this chakra include: love, compassion, forgiveness and empathy. If this chakra is balanced, some indicators include: emotional stability, inner peace and open connections with others. Signs of blockage include: difficulty trusting or forgiving, and emotional disconnection.
The Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) is located at the center of your forehead. The properties of this chakra include: love, compassion, forgiveness and empathy. If this chakra is balanced, some indicators include: open mindedness, trusting your intuition and strong imagination. Signs of blockage include: disconnection from intuition, poor decision making and frequent headaches.
The Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) is located at the very top of your head. The properties of this chakra include: peace, purpose, and enlightenment. If this chakra is balanced, some indicators include: feeling connection to nature, unity, and serenity. Signs of blockage include: confusion, apathy, and feeling spiritually disconnected.
If any of these seven chakras are imbalanced, it is believed to cause cycles of high stress and emotional numbness. But, there are solutions to balance them! Each chakra has its own set of yoga poses to keep good energy flowing. But sound therapy, meditation or even spending time outside can help balance your chakras.
