Senior wide receiver Jason Shelley(12) had a record setting year for the Panther football team this past season, breaking the school’s single season record for receptions, reception yards, total touchdowns, and kick return touchdowns. by a position player. Shelley’s 71 catches, 1223 reception yards, 17 total touchdowns, and 5 kick return touchdowns were all new records that proved the wide receiver was capable of playing at the college level.
On January 30, Shelley had an official visit to Southern Oregon University. SOU is an elite football program in the NAIA division. In 2014, they won the NAIA Championship and reached the championship again in 2015.
“My visit to Southern Oregon was great,” said Shelley. “I loved it. The visit started with workouts and finished with tours of the campus, dorms, athletic facilities and the area surrounding the school.”
Right before Shelley left, he and his father were called into the head coach’s room for a meeting. During the meeting, the head coach offered him a scholarship to play for the team.
On February 7, Shelley accepted the offer and signed with SOU at a signing ceremony in the Benicia High gym.
“I chose Southern Oregon because they want me in their program,” Shelley explained. “I want to go somewhere where I’m truly wanted, and I know I’ll have a good time there.”
