On November 14, the moon will be the biggest it will ever be. It will have been almost 70 years since the last extra-supermoon. While a supermoon occurs when the moon becomes full on the same day as its perigee, the point in the moon’s orbit when it is closest to Earth. An extra-supermoon is 14% bigger than a supermoon. NASA says this supermoon is the biggest this month’s supermoon “becomes full within about two hours of perigee — arguably making it an extra-supermoon.” While supermoons happen every 13 months, an extra supermoon happens very rarely. It is also going to be seen on the following night. Scientists’ say the next extra-supermoon will be in 2034, so make sure you get the chance to see it now.
Next month on December 14th, there will be a supermoon and a meteor shower. This astrological event is called Geminid meteor shower. It is called this because the meteors will look like they are coming from the constelation Gemini. Normally over 100 meteors are seen per hour, but because of the supermoon, only twelve meteors will be seen per hour.
