For the first time in years, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were spotted together in public. On October 29, after attending church, the pair grabbed lunch at a Los Angeles cafe. They appeared to be in good spirits and later, ended up back at Gomez’s So-Cal home. During that same week, Gomez and Bieber were caught walking through downtown Los Angeles, all laughs and smiles. Gomez has recently been notorious for bike rides around her neighborhood, and this trend was continued with Bieber being invited along.
Longtime fans of the duo had their hopes further raised when Gomez attended Bieber’s hockey game, at the Los Angeles Kings Valley Ice Center on November 2nd , cheering him on during it and leaving with Bieber’s hockey jersey on.
Gomez and Bieber are known to have had a very public, dramatic past. The two were constantly off and on from 2012 – 2015. Such as when Bieber and Selena visited Paris together in 2014, then the two parted from each other making it very clear they were on the outs or when Bieber was seen all lovey-dovey with multiple models shortly after being with Gomez throughout the years. There was also when Gomez wrote her hit ballad, “The Heart Wants What it Wants” released in 2015, making it very public that it was about Bieber. The ballad was a very personal song about the emotionally abusive relationship. The indecisive couple finally decided to end their rocky relationship in November of 2015.
Though most fans are excited and in admiration of this reconciliation, the same question has been repeated all over social media: what happened to Gomez’s former boyfriend, Abel Tesfaye (known as The Weeknd)? The Weeknd and Gomez were first seen together in public in early January of 2017, as the two were photographed cuddling on a boat, and thus, rumors of the alleged relationship began, which were later confirmed by Gomez herself.
Gomez and The Weeknd’s relationship was dearly admired by the majority of Instagram, twitter and fans, which seemed to be devastated seeing it come to an end. A reporter of the E! Online publication, Mike Vuplo, stated: “The distance was ok in the beginning and they were trying to make it work, but then Selena really needed more than what The Weeknd could give her. She needed him more present. The fights were not huge just happening more often as time went on,” one source shared. Another insider added, “Selena and Abel both agreed that this relationship wasn’t going to work due to his busy schedule, but Selena was the one who wanted to end it. She didn’t feel secure while he was away, and the schedule conflicts got very exhausting for her.”
Though the reunion of Bieber and Gomez has been satisfying to see for most, old fans are thrilled about it and expressing their admiration through social media outlets such as Twitter and Instagram. But, along with their rocky past, Gomez and Bieber reuniting could just be a fluke. Bieber and Gomez have both said in a variety of interviews that they will always remain friends. Yet as they were recently spotted kissing at Bieber’s hockey game that Gomez attended on November 15th, they are much more.
