    If you ever get the chance to try the chain coffee shop in their several locations around the bay area, the greater Los Angeles areas and around Washington DC, you should definitely try it out. With a semi complicated ordering system that some first time goers might be confused by, you as the customer have a more hands on approach to making the drink exactly how you desire it to come out. At Philz Coffee, you won’t find lattes, cappuccinos, espressos, or pre brewed coffee but rather up to “…twenty customized brews made from their high quality beans from around the world,” coming directly from Philz Coffee’s website. You get to choose how much milk you want, sugar and any other added substance you want to your coffee. Their, “…mission is to better people’s days, and we can promise you that any way you have your coffee, we will make it perfect.” If you’re looking for a place that values traceability, worker safety and social values, you’re next coffee shop should be at Philz Coffee.

2. States Coffee

    “Neighborly roasted coffee and American made goods” is the first thing you see when you visit their shop and online website which gives it an authentic feeling to the shop. Roasted in house, the smell gives the coffee shop an overall great ambiance to do school work in or just chill and hang out with some friends over a good quality coffee. Selling the basic coffee shop drinks such as lattes, cappuccinos, espressos, with a slight fare adding honey, and vanilla lattes. They also have milk alternatives and sell vegan donuts along with it. Adding a donut to your coffee is a definite touch to the whole experience. With a fresh and clean aesthetic to the coffee shop, its a great destination for instagram pics or just a relaxing visit  yourself. Open daily from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, there is ample opportunity for States Coffee to be your next visit to the east bay.

3. Fox and Kit

    The San Rafael location serves coffee in an aesthetic building that is fit for a nice instagram pic just waiting to happen. Originally a coffee haus, they also added a playground, so you know from the bat this coffee shop is kid friendly and encourages families to come and spend time with one another. Located in 1031 C Street San Rafael California, its open Tues through Fri 7:30 am till 5:30 pm, Sat & Sun 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. With the addition of coffee they also sell pastries and various other drinks for people who don’t want to go with a traditional coffee beverage. They even let people contact them to host kids birthday parties there. Only have been open for a few short years this trendy coffee haus is a great addition to the San Rafael/Marin area in Northern California.  

4. Algorithm Coffee

    Popular among the students and locals in Berkeley, this coffee shop “…seeks to use science and technology as tools to make better coffee.” The Coffee shop also, “…sourcing small lot, single origin coffees that are exceptional in flavor and also good for the environment.” Opened at 1122 University avenue Mondays-friday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, at the Berkeley Farmers market at 1947 Center Street every Saturday 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, and lastly at the Kensington Farmers Market 379-389 Colusa Avenue, Kensington California, Every Sunday 10:00 am till 2:00 pm. The coffee shop space is an open concept plan with plenty of room to bring schoolwork or a couple friends to spend an afternoon there. With up to five blends to pick from, Algorithm Coffee has everything an environmentally conscious consumer can choose from.

5. B2 coffee

    If you’re ever in the south bay, you should definitely make the point to go to this eclectic coffee shop in the heart of San Jose. A, “Hip, garage-like hangout offering espresso drinks, premium coffee from local roasters and pastries”, has people coming from all over the SOuth bay to visit this trendy coffee shop. With coffee also comes a lots of seating and tables to sit and study or relax with some close friends. Having an outside patio and patio dining it’s a perfect location for a warm spring or summer afternoon. Located on 87 N San Pedro St, San Jose Ca, open from Mon to Sun 7 Am till 6 Pm, there’s a lot of time and opportunity to visit this coffee store. If you’re someone looking for a quick caffeine boost, the quality roast of the coffee will for sure wake you up.
