On Wednesday the 20th, Benicia swim team went up against Miramonte High school. When you look at the teams you notice a big difference in size. Miramonte had a bigger team, but they didn’t have a JV boys team. When it came to JV boys events they either swam against people on their own team or they went all by themselves. Benicia held their own in all of the events. The results were quite close between the teams, the races had people in the edge of their seats. Teams were yelling, cheering their team mates on. They yell “go” every time their teammate comes out of the water. There is only so much you can tell in that short time when they are above the water.
There were 44 races in total for JV and varsity combined. JV was in girls 200 medley relay, girls and boys 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, girls 50 backstroke, boys and girls 50 breaststroke. Varsity had boys and girls 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle, 200 IM, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, girls 500 freestyle, boys and girls 200 freestyle relay, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, and girls 400 freestyle relay.
Benicia swim team works hard to be the best that they can be. There are a lot of races and it takes a long time, but it’s interesting to see all the different ways they swim and how challenging it is.
