Upcoming Video Games in 2020

By: ALFRED MORGAN

2020 has been a year of isolation and boredom which has caused people to resort to other activities that maintain the current health mandates. Whether it is exercise or just binging Netflix shows and movies, things can get boring fast during a time like this. To a lot of people, playing games is a great way to pass time. So, let’s go over some of the most exciting upcoming releases set to drop later this year.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

The first game and one of the most popular upcoming releases, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The game is set in the 80’s during the Cold War and is a direct sequel to the first in the series; Call of Duty: Black Ops. One reason the game is trending is that the campaign will have multiple endings, historical scenes, and even former President Ronald Reagan. Another reason for why this game is trending is that Treyarch, one of the games producers and the main producer for the Black Ops series announced that a once ended, fan favorite gamemode, Zombies will be making its return. The final reason why the game is trending so highly is that it will have cross-play which means people on PC, PS4, Xbox, and other gaming systems will all be able to play together. Black Ops Cold War has built up so much excitement with almost no information on it then a couple paragraphs and supposed leaks that it will be surely interesting to see how it does in the future. You can purchase this game on all platforms on November 17, 2020.

Cyberpunk 2077

Created by CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 is another one of the most popular upcoming releases in 2020. Set in the futuristic dystopian society of Night City, California, Cyberpunk 2077 is a free-play game very similar to the extremely popular GTA: V. Like Rockstar’s free-play game, Cyberpunk 2077 will have stats, changeable story outcomes, and buyables such as weapons and vehicles. Unfortunately, the online multiplayer version like Rockstar’s GTA: Online will not be released until later. The single-player game will see a much larger scale of story and a plethora of paths and outcomes as every decision that you make will choose a different story. GTA:V, its close relative only had one choice such as this towards the end of the story. All in all, this game is one of the best upcoming releases and could definitely dethrone the standing free-play #1: GTA:V.  Also, during the reveal at the E3 event when it was announced, a clip showing an in-game John Wick character was shown, amping the excitement and therefore its probability of becoming a massive success even more. The game and all its exciting aspects will be available on November 19, 2020.

Spider- Man: Miles Morales

Created by Sony and Marvel, Spider-Man: Miles Morales takes place in Manhattan. Sony previously released a regular Spider-Man which displayed Peter Parker as the main hero. That game, Spider-Man blew up and became extremely popular due to its gorgeous graphics and immense story. Although Spider-Man: Miles Morales is set to be a smaller version of the game comparable to the difference between Uncharted and Uncharted: Lost Legacy, after the massive success of the movie Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse, a landslide of support is expected for the new game. In the announcement trailer, Miles’ signature invisibility ability is seen which would put a whole new shift onto the story mode such as different objectives and very new challenges. Set to release sometime during the holidays of 2020, this game will likely pick up the same amount of success as its predecessor.

All in all, while some of them were held back, there are a lot of exciting releases coming to all gaming platforms. With the new release of the PS5 and the Xbox One X, a new generation of consoles and a handful of amazIng games should give someone plenty of resources to pass time.
